It was the day moves were made on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder, as the top 8 changed in complexion for the first time since Round 8.
Geelong defeated second placed Williamstown to jump into the top 8 at the expense of Box Hill Hawks at the end of Round 12. It is the first time Box Hill Hawks have been outside the top 8 since Round 3, 2013.
Collingwood cost itself a chance of some much needed percentage, leading by 56 points at three-quarter-time to eventually win by just 26 against a Richmond team keen on redeeming themselves in the final term. The Magpies now sit in fourth spot at the end of the round, equal on seven wins with Williamstown and Sandringham, but trail the Seagulls by 66%, with just the 10th best percentage in the competition,

Telling facts: Williamstown dominated the scoring shots 22 to 13, but managed just the five goals – costing themselves with six behinds in the second term compared to Geelong’s two straight. The Seagulls kicked the first two goals of the final term, cutting the margin to just 4 points, but the Cats steadied with goals to Hayball and Lang to produce a memorable win.
