NEWS: GRFC Women’s Division One – Round 10 Report

TOP of the table Deakin Ducks faced off against second placed Drysdale SC last Saturday and came out of the contest 2-0 winners to remain undefeated at the top of the Women’s Division One competition.

The Ducks hosted Drysdale at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds and won comfortably by two goals to nil. With no less than seven members of the Drysdale team playing their second game for the afternoon, the visitors did incredibly well to hold the undefeated Ducks to 2-0. Hannah Gordon scored a brace for Deakin to keep the Ducks on top of the ladder.

Over at Grovedale Reserve, 5th placed Barwon hosted 4th placed Surfside Waves with the home side triumphing 2-1 to leapfrog the visitors into 4th spot. The two teams are separated from each other by just one point on the ladder following the Barwon win. Goalscorers for Barwon included Alyse Lyndal Cook and Laura Fitzpatrick, while Alexis Pearson scored the consolation goal for Surfside.

Kardinia International College took over 2nd place on the ladder after their 4-0 triumph over Geelong SC at Stead Park. Kardinia did it easy against the bottom side with Caelli Wood slamming all four goals into the back of the Geelong net to win the game for the visiting students.

In Round 11 action this coming weekend, the highlight will be the eagerly anticipated 3rd v 4th matchup between Drysdale and Barwon. This will be held at Howard Glover Reserve on Saturday with kick-off set down for 3.00pm.

The other match ups include the top versus bottom encounter between Deakin and Geelong at Deakin University (3pm), while Kardinia will host Surfside Waves at Kardinia International College in Bell Post Hill (1pm).
