2015 Premiership winning The Gap FC Women captain Rebecca Price will bid farewell to PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s football this Friday night.

The 25-year-old will bid a fitting farewell to her club at their Walton Bridge Reserve home ground when the defending Champions and current league-leaders host Sunshine Coast FC.

Price departs the competition following 24 appearances and 8 goals for the Gators after accepting a post-doctoral research position in The Netherlands for the next three years.

The defender proved an ever-present force with the Gators over six seasons across various competitions – winning eleven trophies with the senior side after joining the club as a 14-year-old.

She was also part of of the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women's Select side last season and previously represented Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-League.

Her on field commitments have been matched by a raft of achievements off the field including completing a PHD, working full-time and obtaining an AFC B coaching licence.

Gators coach Rob Askew said Price’s influence will be sorely missed as his side seek to defend their 2015 Premiership and Championship titles.

“She’s a technical player, calm under pressure and a good passer of the ball,” Askew explained.

“(She is) not the quickest across the ground but is very quick between the ears. She is also a ferocious competitor which is an integral part of any good footballer.”

Price also coached the 2015’s Queensland Under 15 Girls at the Westfield National Youth Championship for Girls, and is coach of the The Gap FC Under 13 Girls as well as serving as a mentor to the club’s junior ranks.

Gators Under 15 Girls player Mika Weygood said Price had proved an inspiration to her and other juniors at the club.

“Bec has shown me how a good leader always keeps her head up in tough times, motivates her team to be better players and always leads by example.” Weygood said.

Price cited the development of the club’s culture of success across all the female teams as her greatest achievement.

“I'm proud to see our young NPL girls embracing this culture and growing into confident young women,” she said.
