TALLYGAROOPNA v STANHOPE
Tallygaroopna will be eager to respond after failing to overcome Avenel last weekend. The Redlegs’ played well early and then were outplayed in the second half, so Chris Earles will be keen to see how his team reacts to another big challenge.
Historically the Redlegs’ have done very well against Stanhope, even when they have not enjoyed winning seasons.
Stanhope was far too good for a disappointing Undera last weekend.
Lions coach Brenton Gray will be reminding his players to not be complacent against an improving Tallygaroopna.
Alec Young, Michael Coad and Justin Williams led from the front last week while Jack Young, Blake Coyle and Thomas Hepburn were others to contribute in the big win.
Douglas Wren continued his good form for Tallygaroopna while Timmy Belford, Jayden Goodwin, Austin Tricarico, Hayden Powles and Tim Karolidis were others to work tirelessly in the loss last weekend.
The battle of the full forwards will be one of the key factors in deciding the winner of this contest.
Given the Redlegs’ have already lost on two occasions to teams above them on the ladder this makes this a huge game.
Tip: Stanhope.
MURCHISON v AVENEL
After some indifferent form of late, Murchison bounced back emphatically against Rushworth last week.
Coach Brent Chapman would have been delighted with the form of premiership players Jamie Jones and James Milne while Ethan Homewood, Stephen Devlin Kevin Bloom and Jess Beckhurst were others to play well in the big win while Jake Rennie and Chris Oliver were among the goals.
Avenel can do no wrong and this is another challenge for the unbeaten Swans.
Michael McKenize, ruckman Paul Arandt, Andrew Green, Scott Tyers, Ashley Neville and Nicholas Goodwin were the stars in the win.
Coach Donald Stirling will be continuously looking to challenge his players to get better each week.
He knows that you can’t afford to get ahead of yourself in this competition and Murchison at their best are a very good team.
Tip: Avenel.
LANCASTER v RUSHWORTH
Lancaster is looking to keep the momentum of winning going after a good month of football and it plays the improving Rushworth.
After a bright start to the year, the Tigers have suffered a couple of big losses.
Jason Hucker will look to Michael Telford to continue his goal-kicking form while Craig Turner, Brett Anderson, Gerard Lucas, Ned Barlow and Adam Vick will all need to play well.
The Wombats have been able to get some continuity into their game over the past month and they have benefited from having a clean bill of health.
Michael Hill has been one of the reasons for the turnaround during the past month while Zac Cerrone, Brad Orr, Calum Herrick, Andrew Pettigrove and Chris Eddy have been consistent contributors.
Tip: Lancaster.
UNDERA v VIOLET TOWN
This is a big game for both of these teams, but for different reasons.
Sean Horsburgh will be keen to see how his team responds after it was given a football lesson by Nagambie while Peter Cordy will be keen to see what reaction he gets from his troops after failing to kick a goal against Stanhope.
While he knows his team won’t win a lot of games, Cordy will be seeking improvement from his group each week they run out onto the field.
Violet Town should be able to gain the ascendancy around midfield to be to give Robert Staff and Chris McKay plenty of opportunities to kick a winning score.
Tip: Violet Town.
In the other matches, Girgarre should be able to keep up the pressure on sixth placed Murchison by accounting for Ardmona to make it two wins on the bounce while Nagambie should consolidate its place in the top two with a win against Longwood.
Tips: Girgarre and Nagambie.
