Bayswater go five points clear
Report by Jayden Lihou
Bayswater City extended their lead at the top of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues WA ladder with an impressive 5-1 victory over Perth Glory at Ashfield Arena on Saturday.
The victory sees Bayswater move five points ahead of Inglewood and third-placed Perth SC are one further point adrift.
Perth Glory remains in 10th place and sit three points above bottom-dwellers Subiaco.
Bayswater coach Chris Coyne is happy with his side’s attacking display.
“Today I thought some of our finishing was superb and some of our build up play, especially going forward was very pleasing,” he said.
“I thought all of our boys worked hard today; we are starting to put a really good run together and we are playing some excellent football as well.
“And hopefully that will continue because I know Inglewood have a tough run of games coming up and we are happy with what we are doing at the moment.”
Bayswater opened the scoring when Samuel Mitchinson crossed the ball to Jason Mirco who headed home in the 12th minute.
Perth had an opportunity to score in the 25th minute when a near-post shot from Joseph Knowles was touched over the bar by Devon Spence.
The lead was doubled a mere minute later, however, when David Heagney headed the ball across the goal to Alex Salmon who made no mistake.
Salmon was the architect early in the second period when he laid the ball off to Mitchinson whose powerful shot put his side 3-0 up in the 52nd minute.
Bayswater had their fourth goal just seven minutes later when a diagonal ball from Devon Gibson found Salmon who put the ball into a bottom corner from a tight angle.
Glory’s Nic Talimdzioski won and scored a free kick just outside of the box to make it 4-1 in the 77th minute.
Micro doubled his goal tally in the 88th minute when he found space inside the box and scored to put the icing on the 5-1 victory.
Glory coach John Gibson admitted that the final score-line wasn’t a testament of his team’s performance.
“I thought they were incredibly clinical because they took all of their opportunities,” he said.
“Obviously their experience and their quality showed through but we had five or six, maybe even seven opportunities that we created today that we didn’t take.
“The boys are absolutely livid inside to be honest, but we have a game on Tuesday night so our focus now is recovery.”
