AFL Victoria is pleased to announce Swisse Wellness as the naming rights partner to the VFL Women’s competition for 2016.
As part of the new agreement, Swisse has revealed three player ambassadors - Darebin Falcons pair Daisy Pearce and Lauren Arnell, and Diamond Creek Captain Steph Chiocci.
AFL Victoria Chief Executive Officer Steven Reaper said it is fantastic to have a well- established brand like Swisse associated with our new competition.
“The interest and growth in women's football has helped us attract a brand like Swisse that wants to be associated with the high standard of football that is now produced,” Reaper said.
“The establishment of the VFL Women’s competition has been instrumental in developing players across Melbourne and regional areas, providing the next step in the female talent pathway.
“It is great that Swisse is showing their support for women’s football, and we hope it is the start of a long relationship with the brand.”
Swisse Director of Sales & Marketing, Michael Howard, said Swisse is committed to supporting women in sport, and is thrilled to partner with the VFL Women’s competition.
“At Swisse, we are dedicated to health and wellbeing. We love getting behind Australian sport, and with the VFL Women’s we see some of the best athletes in Australia – it’s really exciting.
“The passion, talent and spirit demonstrated in women’s football is inspiring to watch and should be supported like its elite counterparts. We look forward to working with the VFL to continue to evolve women’s football and raise the profile of the players.”
The inaugural VFL Women’s competition began in April this year, featuring the six clubs from the 2015 Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) Premier Division (Darebin, Diamond Creek, Eastern Devils, Melbourne Uni, St Kilda, VU Western Spurs) and the top four teams from Division 1 (Cranbourne, Geelong, Knox, Seaford).
The 18-round season features 13 double-header games with the Peter Jackson VFL men’s competition, with the top four teams at the end of the home and away season competing in finals, starting on August 27/28.
The depth of talent continues to grow in the competition, with over 80% of the 150 players in the new AFL Victoria Women’s Academy taking centre stage each week, including 40 players that have represented both Melbourne and Western Bulldogs in the recent AFL Women’s Exhibition games.
Round 8 kicks off on June 11 with the top of the ladder clash between the undefeated Darebin Falcons and second placed Melbourne Uni at Casey Fields as part of a double header with Casey Scorpions and Collingwood in the Peter Jackson VFL. The Casey versus Collingwood VFL game will be live on Channel 7, with new Swisse Ambassador Daisy Pearce to appear on the broadcast at half time.
Australia’s number one natural health brand Swisse is dedicated to making people healthier and happier with an extensive range of high-quality, natural and scientifically proven products, which today include: vitamins, supplements, skincare and sports nutrition.
