After being on par with second on the ladder Barwon Red, Surf Coast lost to a surprisingly more dominant Breakwater Eagles side. Breakwater’s key weapon was Branden Duthie who nailed a hat trick for the second week in a row. Jack Plunkett finished off the game for the Eagles with his first goal of the season.
The clash between top side Deakin Ducks Gold and lowly Barwon Heads on Friday night finished off with Deakin grabbing another three points to continue their undefeated start to the season.
The score at half time was 5-0 courtesy of goals to Shannon Kearns, Christopher De Hoog, Mark Hambrook, Ipyana Killimbe and Kyle Cushion. It took 25 minutes into the second half before Peter Dawe netted the last goal of the game to take the final score to 6-0.
Drysdale and Barwon Red fought out a much closer scoreline in their clash at Howard Glover Reserve on Sunday, with the game ending in a 4-3 result for Barwon.
To start the game off, Barwon was able to convert two quick goals very early in the game to show everyone that they were there to play good football. The teams battled out the first half and went away with the result being 4-1 for the visitors.
Being more switched on after the break Drysdale was able to net two goals but couldn’t score another goal to equal the scores. Goalscorers for Barwon included Sean Mahon with a brace and Sean Muldowney and Hayden Williams with singles apiece. On the opposing side, Andrew Scott, Kenneth Campbell and Danny Hegarty all scored singles apiece.
Surfside Waves had another deserved victory over the visiting Deakin Ducks Black eventually running out 4-1 winners. The home team had four individual goal scorers: Jack Pedler, Daniel Holroydm, Craig Groom and Trent Budzynski. Elliott Creed netted the consolation goal for Deakin.
The final game of the weekend was contested between Geelong SC and Bell Park, with the stronger Geelong side winning the game 7-3. The Red and Blacks were led by Daniel Conte who netted a brace, while the other goal scorers for the Lions included Steven Ginoski, Christopher Bocchicchio, Michael Conte, Paul Edebohls and Amritpal Singh Chhina.
In the other Division One game, the Elcho Park Cardinals v Geelong Rangers clash was forfeited by Elcho Park due to a shortage of players. The resulting 3-0 forfeit keeps Geelong Rangers in 7th place.
