Subiaco came from behind to clinch a 2-1 victory, their first of the season, against Armadale at Rosalie Park on Saturday.

The win sees Subiaco move within two points of Armadale on the ladder, with both teams now occupying the bottom two spots in the league.

Subiaco coach Michael Brazil was ecstatic with the result, believing it was a just reward for the team's effort in recent games.

“It's fantastic for the club [and] that's been coming for a few weeks now,” he said.

“We've been like that for the best part of two, three, four weeks, but we've had nothing to show for it. They're a young side, and to their credit, they kept plugging away, and they got their rewards.”

Armadale hit the lead a quarter of the way through the game, with a high lobbed ball into the box falling to striker Alex Castiello's feet, who was able to time a well-struck half-volley into the back of the net.

The goal came against the run of play, with Subiaco the ones spending most of the game to that point attempting to create opportunities in their forward half.

The home side came extremely close to levelling the score when James Casserly's headed effort on goal struck the left post, and not long after Ian McMurray's effort to lob one over the keeper with his head was stopped by a pair of outstretched arms.

Despite Subiaco's attacking display, Armadale were just as impressive, suffocating their opponents with strong man-on-man defensive work.

Their resolve could only last so long, however, and shortly after half time Subiaco drew a foul in their attacking box, resulting in a penalty that was easily converted by Kevin White.

The last quarter of the game Armadale lifted their attacking pressure and pacey substitute Issy Bangura almost put the team in front after breaking away from the opposing defence and firing a bullet that shot across the face of goal, skimming past a post.

With that chance gone begging, Subiaco seized the momentum and with fresh legs, Jackson Darnell was able to get the ball to White once more, who coolly slotted it past the goalkeeper from directly in front with just over five minutes remaining.

Armadale coach Paul Price felt his team were unfortunate to walk away with a loss, lamenting his team's injury toll and the costly penalty decision.

“We were the better side by far, in my opinion. We had five players missing through injury and suspension from last week's game,” he said.

“They did score at the end, but we'd had two players that had to go off by that time ... the fact is that first goal got them back into the game.

“We've done well, but we've got six injuries now, and a suspension from that sending off [last week] – it's cost us today's game.”
