On Tuesday, Volleyball Victoria said a final goodbye to the Croatian national women’s team, the last of the international teams to depart the State Volleyball Centre at Dandenong Stadium in preparation of the Women’s Grand Prix event being hosted by our able affiliates, Bendigo Volleyball Association. We had the good fortune to host not only Croatia, but the Helloworld Volleyroos, University of New Mexico, and New Zealand, who had earlier enjoyed the hospitality of another regional affiliate, while playing practice matches in the Latrobe Valley.
The visit of these four teams coincided with the Volleyball Victoria Schools Cup – One Day event and provided an incredible opportunity to showcase international-standard women’s volleyball for our aspiring school volleyballers. Rarely was the show court free from spectators throughout the six day visit and we thank Volleyball Australia for extending us this opportunity.
In support of the Helloworld Volleyroos, we ticketed two practice matches against Croatia, and the Victorian volleyball community showed their true colours, turning out in strong support of their national women’s team, a team that features no less than six Victorian women. As a result of this support, Volleyball Victoria will be making a donation to the self-funded women’s program on behalf of the Victorian volleyball community.
Now our attention turns to Bendigo and the Women’s Grand Prix, to be competed by the Helloworld Volleyroos, Croatia, Cuba, and Colombia. Whilst the home nation has a battle on their hands, they will be more than taken care of by John Sheen, Murray Mansfield, and the rest of the Bendigo Volleyball Association, who will leave no stone unturned to provide a world class experience in the heart of Victoria. A proud association with access to vast volleyball experience and expertise, we look forward to the spectacle that Bendigo Volleyball put on show.
We strongly encourage every fan and any would-be fan of volleyball to make their way to Bendigo for one or more of the matches this weekend, tickets are available at volleyroos.com.au
