DESPITE suffering a 104-point loss to the Tallangatta and District side on Saturday, the Ovens and King’s under 18 interleague side wasn’t disgraced.
With a massive discrepancy in the available player pools between the two leagues, the O&K was always going to struggle to compete.
But co-coach Darryn Hourigan said that while his side was outmatched, the players displayed plenty of heart and a positive attitude throughout.
“The result wasn’t any surprise,” Hourigan said.
“That’s just where the Ovens and King thirds competition is situated at the moment – it needs a bit of help.
“But the thing that impressed me was the desire of the boys to be involved and really have a crack.
“Our first 10 minutes was outstanding – if we’d been able to maintain that we would have taken it right up to them.
“We were outclassed after that, but the effort and commitment didn’t waver.
“The boys flew the flag for the league and they really fought it out.”
