1. Tom Shaw (WCH) tackled by Brayden Chambers (WU), Tyson Tree(WU) ready to swoop
2. Hawks speedster Nick Schumann shares a story with Magpies Ian Jericho, Adam Jericho and Dallas Waters
3. Sam Buckham snaps at goal with Jake Mc Evoy diving desparately to spoil. Always controversial with the double noise adjudged as the boot being touched rather than the ball.
4. Ladies working in the canten have an apparent Corporate Box view of the action.
5. Henry Zwar (WU) surrounded by a nest of Hawks, Dillon Montgomerie (7), Dale Montgomerie (4), and Kirk Montgomerie. This was common of the sort of pressure that the Magpies were under.
‘Dogs continue along their merry way, gunning down the Bombers at home, Hawks continue to build with a convincing win over the Maggies at Wudinna, and Roosters made a big step towards 2016 finals, downing the Tigers at home. Windy conditions again made kicking difficult, but some big scores had.
Central Eyre out of the blocks quickly at Kyancutta, and commanding the first three quarters where the generally across the ground breeze allowed for scoring at both ends. Nineteen goals to one at ¾ time, only a seven goal Bomber last quarter returning a level of respectability to the final score. 106 point win to the ‘Dogs after leading by 119 at “lemon” time break, maybe easing up later and a few positional try outs. Fitzgerald’s again dominant, Tasman with six goals and Zac with five, and setting up countless others, Jesse Stringer continuing his great form around the centre, Lachy Heath and Clint Winter in everything. Wonderful run and fast ball movement, sharing the ball and working for each other. Welcome back to the seniors to Tyler Chapman, and Ty Mc Kenna. Key trio of Jake Bruce, Keenan Bury and Jake Sampson missing with injury, so plenty to look forward to at the Doghouse.
Club legend Jared Sampson spent a busy week assisting SA Power networks with some electricity infrastructure upgrades at their farm. Traditionally undergrounding power lines has been the portfolio of the Power Line Environment Committee, however Jared has proven his versatility in capably assisting their operations with his tractor and bar!
An additional souring of the day for the men in black and red is further hamstring problems to Jarden Stoetzer, but another great game for Yanni Kozminski, quickly emerging as a Mid West premier ruckman, Lawrence Benbolt pace and game knowledge, Jason Henderson and Cody Colbung each doing well, Shannon Haynes dangerous when given the opportunity, with three goals. Maybe the seeding operations for those involved not helping the Bomber cause, but on paper this match should have been much closer, so a quick bounce back is looked for by Big Red’s boys.
Wirrulla stay on the road next week as they head to Wudinna to take on the Maggies. Wirrulla won this encounter round one, but Wudinna United were in the match until the end. The Maggies do miss the younger college brigade, and must play at their very best to beat a Bombers outfit very much on the rebound. Bombers need to win this to stay in touch for a double chance, top two ladder placing and will start as favourite.
West Coast Hawks cruised into Wudinna town, leaving with a very convincing ninety point win, mostly set up in the first half, with an 84 point lead at the half. Kicking with a breeze, they not only made the best use of that, but also won most of the early contests and used the ball with purpose. This was the Hawks of last year, play on, hitting targets and well structured. Mark Dolling in the centre and changing forward in everything in the first half, some bench time with a sore elbow in the second half, an injury carried into the match, but his six goals very telling in creating the unassailable lead. Aiden Whitford a big target forward kicking five, Corey Cabot, four goals, also his work outside of range where he set up plenty of goal assists and made the play time and again. Defenders Damien Johnson and Scott Montgomerie plenty of the ball all day and constructive with its use, Jake Mc Evoy continues his fine form, and pace whilst on the ball very telling. Dillon Montgomerie would have blown the GPS with the amount of ground that he covered, another four quarter match Good all round team effort which is what the Hawks do when they play well, they continue to build.
The Magpies do take out an improved second half performance but the match was cooked by then! Henry Zwar leading from the front, Sam Buckham in the centre, Brayden Chambers worked hard all day, Neil Seaman in defence along with Darryl Marshall, a formidable combination in 2015 and teamed up again, Ian Jericho maturity beyond his younger years played well.
Tyson Jackson received a heavy knock to the head and required hospitalisation, best wishes are sent to him for a speedy recovery. He leaves for another working trip to Europe and will be sorely missed in the Magpie camp.
The Hawks head to Elliston next week, which is not always a happy hunting ground for them. The Roosters for their part will be confident and raring to go. The Hawks must win this to stay on track wrestle top billing back from the recalcitrant “Dogs, who have rudely stolen Hawks mantle as the season pace setters. Will be a close match, and maybe wet also!
Elliston held off another determined effort from the Tigers, kicking away only in the last quarter to win by 41 points, maybe a larger margin than was indicative of the match. Certainly the forward line class of the Roosters just too hot to handle for the Districts boys.
Jordan Newton outstanding with six majors and providing real bite all day, reliable campaigners Adam Hurrell, Tom Rumbelow leading the charge, younger players Liam Newton and Tristan Ryan in the best along with Broden Thompson. The Roosters play their oval well, use the defensive and attacking sides when they need to and play with a passion. Andrew Mc Leod is another in great form in 2016.
The Tigers again competitive and for three quarters very much in the game for a win. Shannon Horgan another good one seeing him leading the Leagues MVP award, Kade Hood (3 goals)and Kade Gill in the best, good having Kieren Vermuelen back in the side. The wind probably didn’t help their cause but the Tigers did battle the game out.
Next week the Tigers take on the might of the Bulldogs at Warramboo, so things are not getting any easier. Western Districts seem to have a power beyond all others to restrict the relentless Bulldogs scoring juggernaut, but this is a big assignment for them. Centrals will start as favourite at home.
