Sunday’s Peter Jackson VFL results have created a logjam in the top eight, with six teams now sitting on four wins between third and eighth on the ladder.
Behind the top two of the Casey Scorpions and Williamstown are the Box Hill Hawks, Port Melbourne, Werribee, Collingwood and two of today’s winners, Sandringham and Footscray.
The Zebras knocked off Werribee by 37 points and the Bulldogs beat Essendon by 19, while in the day’s other matches, Geelong rolled Frankston by 37 points and the Northern Blues defeated Coburg by 11.

Telling facts: A scintillating opening quarter was the main reason the Cats defeated the Dolphins at Frankston Oval and secured their third win of 2016. Frankston actually outscored the visitors after quarter time on the back of a spirited display of high-pressure football, but Geelong had already opened up a defining 40-point lead by the first break. The loss saw the Dolphins fall to a record of 2-4.

Telling facts: Footscray may have opened up a 27-point lead by the long break, but Essendon never went away in the second half at Windy Hill. The Bombers closed to within seven points 10 minutes into the final quarter and were still only two goals down deep into time-on, but the Bulldogs held on to record a third straight win and replace Essendon in the top eight.

Telling facts: Northern gave former captain Brent Bransgrove a dream send-off in his 100th and final VFL game, defeating Coburg in front of a strong crowd at Preston City Oval. The Blues gained the ascendancy early and put the foot down further in a five-goal-to-two third quarter to go on and arrest a four-game losing streak with their second victory of the season.

Telling facts: The wind was a big player at Trevor Barker Beach Oval and Sandringham used it to perfection in the final quarter. The Zebras came home with a seven-goal last term to steamroll the Tigers, who had led by three points at three-quarter time. Both teams are now part of the logjam of six clubs sitting on 16 premiership points between third and eighth on the ladder.
