Congratulations to the EDFL U/18s who did themselves proud winning by 66 points over the SFL. Kicking with a four to five goal wind they set up victory with a nine goal opening term blitz to lead by 57 points at the first change. Captain Charlie Park led the way with three first quarter goals, ruckman Sam Whibley kicked two while Tyler Hotchkin, Travis Bindley and Jedd Serong all pitched in with majors in the first quarter.
With the breeze in the second quarter the SFL posted five goals but majors by Jesse Davies and Joel Paredes during the term saw that the visitors went into the main break with a commanding 36 point lead.
Another two goals to Park and six pointers by Serong and Will Jolley in the third quarter gave the EDFL an unbeatable 63 point lead at the final change. In the last quarter the EDFL kept pressing with the highlight being a running goal from a difficult angle by Mat Notman.
It was a top all round team effort. Captain Charlie Park used good body work and his strong hands to notch five goals and was awarded the Worksafe best on ground medal. Centre half back Tyler Pratt read play well and Will Jolley, Daniel Helmore, Tyler Hotchkin and Bailey George all excelled through the midfield. Talls Jesse Davies and Tim Stoll made top contributions in a fantastic team performance. Well done to coach Darren Ratten for his third successive victory as the U/18 senior coach.
For the SFL 16 year old diminutive StKIlda City midfielder Jesse Firebrace was a standout and won the Worksafe award for their best player.

The EDFL would like to thank all involved with the 2016 Interleague campaign. To put a team on the ground and provide adequate support requires many to contribute. The EDFL would like to acknowledge the Garfield football club for providing their ground and catering on jumper presentation night. To the team managers, water persons, interchange stewards, the timekeepers and the supporters that attended – A BIG THANK YOU. Apologies to anyone missed!
