The TRFM Gippsland League netball sub-committee has unveiled the teams for this weekend’s Metricon Homes Intraleague Netball Challenge.
The league was divided along geographic lines to form two evenly-matched sides, with Traralgon’s Kate French (East) and Drouin’s Stacie Gardner (West) appointed coaches.
The match will take place at Warragul’s Western Park on Saturday, as part of the Worksafe Community Championships and in lieu of the traditional interleague netball clash.
Traralgon and Morwell make up the bulk of the East squad with four players each, with Drouin providing the same number to the West side.
Seven of the league’s 10 clubs are represented across the two teams, which together include five members of the open team that won the Regional Victoria Netball League grand final in March.
The teams were selected by the league’s netball sub-committee and French said the game was shaping up as a close contest.
“I’m pretty excited about the team I’ve got to work with,” French said.
“There’s a lot of height with Courtney Garth and Lexi Bowe at one end and Ramayer Gourley at the other.
“Stacie is a great coach, we coached against each other in last year’s grand final, and she has some great players to work with from that end of the league.”
French, who also coaches the league’s open representative side, said with twice as many spots up for grabs than usual, the game would celebrate the strength of the league.
“It’s a good showcase event and a great opportunity for some different players to represent the league and show how much talent we have at all our clubs,” she said.
The game starts at 12.15pm.
