Both Redlands United and Brisbane City coaches believe their gritty showdown last Friday night is just a precursor to tonight’s Westfield FFA Cup clash.

City recorded an upset 2-1 win over Redlands in their PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues clash – their first ever win in the competition against the Red Devils at Cleveland Showgrounds.

However, City coach John Kosmina said despite his side’s performance that the do-or-die Westfield FFA Cup tie will be markedly different and that neither side has a true psychological edge.

“Well we’re at home, but they’ll take a lot of confidence about the way they came back into it,” Kosmina explained.

“The confidence we can get out of surviving a game like that will do us a world of good.”

“(It) was an important game for the league, Tuesday is an important one for the cup,” he concluded.

Redlands coach Matt Chandler took a different view and stressed the difficulty of separating the two fixtures – describing the current state of play as ‘half-time’.

“We’re looking forward to Tuesday, but it’s half time now. Obviously we’re disappointed, but we have got an opportunity to try and get a result on Tuesday,” he said.

“We know it’s going to be tough and we’ll have to do certain things differently but on the whole, we created enough chances to win the (last) game so we have to be pleased with some of the things we’ve done.”

Chandler also agreed that following nine yellow cards in Friday night’s encounter the Westfield FFA Cup clash looms as a spicy affair.

“Tuesday will be great, there will be plenty of niggle,” he concluded.

Redlands are aiming to reach Preliminary Round 7 of the Westfield FFA Cup for the second straight year, while City are currently on their best ever run in the competition.

Both sides have never reached the national Round of 32 of the national knock-out tournament in its first two years.
