Winners so far in Round 5 have been Essendon fending off a late charge by Geelong to take the points, Port Melbourne leading from start to finish against Richmond, Sandringham running away from Collingwood in the final term and Williamstown kicking away from Werribee in the first quarter.

Telling facts: Sandringham were in control for most of the match, but were unable to extend its lead to over five goals till the final term. For the second week in a row they kept their opposition goalless in the final quarter and proceeded to kick six of their own the win three on the trot.

Telling facts: In an amazing start to the game, Werribee kicked the opening goal, Williamstown kicked six behinds followed by 14 unanswered goals to race to an 85-point lead midway through the second term. The Seagulls hit the 100–point lead mark, before Werribee kicked 5 goals to 1 in the final term to cut the final deficit in the Tigers' first defeat for 2016.
