WHOROULY Lions secured their first win of the 2016 Ovens and King season overrunning Greta by a massive 141 points.
The Lions’ win was set up through a 7.9 to 1.0 opening quarter, setting the tone for the remainder of the game as the Blues’ season struggles continued.
The second term saw the Lions kick a further 6.4 to 2.1 to take a 72-point lead into halftime where the message from coach Nathan Hooper was to go on with the job.
Whorouly lifted again with a 7.4 to 0.0 third stanza seeing the lead extend out to 118 points at the final break.
The Blues held firm in the last quarter lifting their pressure to force the Lions to kick 4.6 while kicking 1.1 of their own before the final siren announced Whorouly’s win.
Lions’ assistant coach Scott McMasters said the win was reward for effort for the group.
“I believe we have been in good form all year barring the Milawa game,” McMasters said.
“We have played three of the four preliminary finalists from last year, and we pushed those sides and were in those games for a majority of the match.
“This win means a lot; Nathan (Hooper) said that coaching a winning side is one of the biggest buzzes he has felt in football.”
