Well it's 3 rounds in and we have seen some really competitive football which is great for the competition.
With many people's early tip Kyabram maintaining an unbeaten run, we have seen Swans match that performance. Encouragingly, clubs such as Tatura and Echuca have shown real improvement from last year.
While 5th, Rochester have only lost once and Euroa have maintained form to stay in the 6, and after losing their first game Benalla are starting to hit their straps.
Even those clubs in the bottom half of the ladder have been competitive at stages.
This creates real interest and excitement for fans.
We expect announcement of our interleague squads in the next week, with Scott Beattie and Jason Wells having kept their eye on the available talent.
We expect the Essendon District Football League to be tough competition, but are committed to giving our teams the best chance under the new format.
The points system has created no issues to date and clubs have embraced its format.
One of the League's key priorities is the development of and support for volunteers.
With the support of Bendigo Bank and Valley Sport, AFL Goulburn Murray will be rolling out a Club development program which is designed to support Clubs by:
- providing a "health check" about how the Clubs administration is travelling and identifying areas for improvement
- providing training in financial management for clubs
- reviewing methods for the development of playing talent within clubs
We are excited by the opportunities that this program will provide for Clubs.
Well done to the Goulburn Valley Giants Masters team who remain undefeated after 2 games, a great innovation this year.
Best wishes to Euroa President Scott Watson as he recovers from knee surgery after an injury in last week’s game against Seymour.
