The future has arrived for two of Collingwood’s newest players.
The Magpies have named newly promoted rookies Mason Cox and Josh Smith alongside defenders Jack Frost and Brayden Maynard in their 25-man squad for ANZAC Day.
It has been a whirlwind ride for Josh Smith who 4 months ago was working in Brisbane. At just 181cm, he is a good 30cm smaller than Cox, but his form has been just as impressive.
He is averaging 21.5 disposals in the opening two rounds of the VFL season, this despite spending most of March on the sidelines due to a foot injury sustained during the NAB Challenge.
Smith, 21, has been on the draft radar for several years, representing Queensland in the National Under 18 Championships as far back as 2011. Blessed with an elite running capacity and a strong determination to train hard, he becomes the third Redland product at Collingwood, joining Adam Oxley and Josh Thomas on the 2016 list.
The entire Darling Downs AFL community have their fingers crossed for Josh to make the final 22 and debut on one of the biggest stages in Australian sport.
