Meredith Focused On Pride

Brisbane Strikers sharpshooter Rhys Meredith is leading the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues scoring charts but is refusing to get carried away with his form.
Meredith has hit the back of the net in every league game he has played this season – a return of seven goals in six appearances – but suggested the best is yet to come from he and his teammates as they travel to Western Pride this weekend.
Despite Strikers run of four straight wins and three consecutive clean sheets, the 28-year-old striker is adamant nothing will be taken for granted this weekend against a Pride side struggling for consistency in the bottom half of the table.
“It’s going to be a tough game – it’s always tough out at Ipswich,” Meredith said.
“I don’t think there’s any chance we will be over-confident. The way Kevin (A’Herne-Evans) approaches our sessions he won’t let that happen and I don’t think we as players are going to let that happen."
In his first season with Strikers after previous stints with South Melbourne FC, Olympic FC and Redlands United, Meredith said he has made a happy start to life with the three time PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Semi-Finalists.
“I’ve had a couple of injury-hit seasons and was just looking to get off to a good start,” he explained.
“I think the goals are a sign of how well the team is doing. I’ve got players in behind me like Trent Clulow, Jake McLean, Michael Angus and Shelford Dais and it’s hard not to score with players like that around you.”
However, Meredith said he is still looking for improvement in his game and his early season returns will count for nothing if he does not contribute in the latter part of the season.
“As a team we are only just touching the surface of how well we can play and starting to build in confidence.”
“While I’ve been scoring all the time I haven’t thought I’ve played as well as I could. I just want to keep on scoring – and scoring in the big games and doing it when it matters.”
Despite his record of 19 goals in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland since 2014, Meredith has never scored against Pride.
