The Toowoomba based U17 Youth Girls AFL competition kicks off for season 2016 this Friday and with 4 additional schools committing to the second year of this competition its looming as a bumper season for all involved.
Concordia College, Downlands College, Centenary Heights SHS and Harristown SHS have joined inaugural schools / clubs St Saviours, St Josephs, South Toowoomba AFC and Toowoomba AFC to expand the format of the 2016 competition.
While the structure of this year’s competition will remain at 4 teams the inclusion of 4 new schools has resulted in the competition moving to a 12-15 a side format. This is a big jump from the 9 a side format in 2015 and highlights the continual growth in the female game.
Darling Downs female programs coordinator Jay Anderson is excited about the expansion of this year’s competition and has been working tirelessly behind the scenes with all schools / clubs involved leading into Friday night’s launch. “It’s great to see the interest levels in women’s AFL continually increasing and I just can’t wait for Friday night now to witness the players in action”, stated Jay.
This year’s season will consist of 6 weeks of Friday night regular season games and 1 week of finals concluding Friday 3rd June. All games will be played at Rockville Park 5-6pm. Players looking to come in for a game are more than welcome.
