Team of the Week Round 5

Congratulations to Zachary Drake, whose barnstorming display down the right hand flank in the Eastern Shore Derby earned him the player of the week honours for round 4.

GK- Mark Grace- Kingborough Lions

Made two sublime stops from close range to deny Huigsloot and Maiorano in a fantastic performance as he helped to keep his side in the game right up till the final whistle. In a tough season for the Lions the goalkeeper has been one of the shining lights.

RB- Mattias Toghill- Hobart Zebras

Toghill had his best game of the season, providing a constant outlet for attacking moves down the right hand side and whipping in a number of quality crosses to cause problems for the Lions defence.

CB- Hugh Ludford- South Hobart

Devonport played a very direct style, playing a lot of long range passes which Ludford just ate up. He might not have had the pace of the Devonport front 3, but his reading of the play allowed him to snuff out the majority of attacks before anything could develop.

CB- Joseph Zupo- Devonport Strikers

A mountain at the back once again. Zupo was outstanding, as usual winning everything in the air. His duel with Lesczynski was one of the keys to the game as the Devonport defence became the first side to keep him off the score sheet this season.

CB- Kieran Mulraney- Devonport Strikers

Complimenting Zupo was Mulraney who made the shift from full back to centre back with aplomb. Had big shoes to fill with Nathan Gratton out injured but didn’t miss a beat as his added pace helped to shut down the mobile attackers of South Hobart.

LB- Pat Lanau Atkinson – Northern Rangers

Lanau-Atkinson was outstanding up against Olympia, he took the points in his duel with the dangerous Borbor Sam, rarely allowing the winger in behind him and winning a number of crucial challenges to break up the play.

CM- Joel Stone- Devonport Strikers

Every time he touched the ball something would happen. Showed off his sublime skills with a number of eye catching moves and showed ice cold composure to set up the match winner. Defensively he was tireless in his work rate, helping nullify South’s previously free scoring midfield.

CM- Nicholas Mearns- Olympia Warriors

A hat-trick for Mearns who has rediscovered his form of 2015 over the past two weeks. He was the star for his side as they escaped with a win thanks to his 91st minute header. Scored all of his sides goals in one of the best individual performances of the season.

RF- Nathan Bartlett- Launceston City

Helped himself to a hat-trick as he showcased his brilliant finishing abilities. It was also his pace to get in behind the back four along with his willingness to scrap for every ball that shone through.

LF- Isaac Degetto- Launceston City

Rocking a bit of the Roberto Baggio pony tail look and played a bit like him in this one too. The youngster bagged a brace and set up another in a fine display. His movement and darting runs proved too much for the Clarence defence and his third goal was a particularly nice finish on the left.

ST- Luke Huigsloot – Hobart JEEP Zebras

The towering striker set up both of the Zebras goals as he continues to provide the outlet Zebras lacked last year. Has a knack for forcing opposing defenders to turn the ball over as he seems to cover about 5 metres either side of himself due to his leg span.
