It won’t heal the scars of their 2015 Peter Jackson VFL Grand Final defeat to Williamstown, but the Box Hill Hawks gained some form of revenge against the Seagulls in the clubs’ Round 2 rematch.
The Hawks looked ripe for the picking once again in the middle parts of Sunday’s game as Williamstown’s midfield threatened to blow the game open. However, Box Hill’s mix of experience and youth steadied impressively in the final quarter to prevail by 15 points in an entertaining contest.
In Sunday’s other games, the Casey Scorpions continued their percentage-boosting start to 2016 with a 56-point defeat of Collingwood (following a 144-point victory over Frankston in Round 1), while Werribee also claimed its second win of the season in accounting for Frankston by 38 points.

Box Hill dominated possession early and led by 11 points at quarter time but Williamstown’s midfield soon took over to help create a 10-point advantage at the last break. However, several youngsters stepped up for the Hawks in a tense final stanza, with four unanswered goals securing their second win for 2016.
