Two second-half goals saw The Gap FC Women record a hard-fought 2-0 win over Olympic FC Women at Goodwin Park and stay top of the table.
The visitors delivered a quick one-two from a pair of corners before the hour to seal their fifth straight win of the season – Rebecca Price and Greta Bodey both converting with headed finishes for their second goals each this season.
Olympic weren’t without their chances but proved unable to get the better of the Gators defences to succumb to a second straight defeat.
The win also extends the Gators’ record PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s record unbeaten run to 15 games since July last year and sees the defending Champions retain a two point buffer over Eastern Suburbs FC Women in the title race.
Key Moments
10’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Allira Toby is released by a long ball from Elizabeth Doherty but the winger fires her shot straight at Gators goalkeeper Noran Abaza
16’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC – Natalie Tathem finds herself with space on the right edge of the area and dinks the ball to the back post to force Noran Abaza into a smart save.
46’ – GOAL FOR GATORS – The visitors open accounts shortly after the break as Rebecca Price rises above the pack from a corner and thumps a header in off the cross bar from close range
54’ – GOAL FOR GATORS – Jessica Dillons’ corner finds Greta Bodey free and she heads home from six yards to double the advantage
77’ – CHANCE FOR OLYMPIC - Kirsten Jamieson controls a bouncing ball just outside the area before volleying just over the crossbar
What They Said
“Some key moments went against us and we didn’t manage to take advantage of opportunities in the first half. We should’ve been able to put the game to bed in the first half. In the second half the girls did everything I asked them to do but we just weren’t able to control certain aspects of the game.“ – Phil Canham, Olympic FC Women coach
“(The goals) were just two really good deliveries, a bit of desperation, getting into the contest and getting an early jump to seize the moment. (Set pieces) are not something we work on and I can’t remember the last time we won with two set-pieces either.“ – Rebecca Price, The Gap FC Women captain
