It has been a round of firsts in the Peter Jackson VFL Round 2, with all the winners so far recording win number one for season 2016.
Friday night under lights saw Northern Blues welcome Geelong to season 2016, defeating the Cats by 14 points. Essendon returned with the points from Bendigo against North Ballarat, Richmond staged a fightback to defeat Footscray and Port Melbourne kept Coburg at arm’s length till a scare in the final term to record win number one for the year.

Telling facts: A seven goal to two second term – with Liam Jones instrumental on his way to five goals for the game - helped provide the Blues with a buffer going into the second half and their first win of the season.

RICHMOND 17.10 (112) d FOOTSCRAY 7.18 (60)
Streak: Richmond – L W / Footscray – W L
Telling facts: Trailing by 26 points early in the second term, Richmond kicked the next eight goals in a row to set up its first win of the season. It was all the Tigers after quarter time with 16 goals to three.

PORT MELBOURNE 12.12 (84) d COBURG 11.8 74
Streak: Port Melbourne L W / Coburg L L
Telling facts: Port Melbourne held on against a strong finishing Coburg side, with Ahmed Saad’s six goals – three in the final term - not enough to help the Lions over the line.
