Mundy's Olympic Optimism

Matt Mundy's career is littered with success but the Olympic FC defender says it’s a very different feeling not being near the top of the table.
The central defender's resume boasts Championship and Premiership titles in the Hyundai A-League with Brisbane Roar in 2011, as well as the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland double in 2013 with Olympic.
However, these achievements seem like a distant memory at the moment, with Olympic recording just a single victory to start 2016 and currently in the midst of the club’s worst losing streak since entering PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues.
“It’s definitely been a big change and there’s been some very frustrating moments,” Mundy conceded.
“I think it will be just one of those seasons where we work on things and build from here on up.”
“There are some talented young players in the squad so hopefully we’ll come good shortly.”
Still only 28, Mundy now finds himself as one of the veterans of a youthful Olympic side and is increasingly taken on a mentoring role in the team.
Mundy advises his younger teammates, many of whom are still teenagers, to keep their heads up at all times, and they will soon benefit from their first steps into the national second tier.
“Work hard, you’re going to make mistakes but as long as you’re working your ass off on the field then no one is going to hold that against you,” he said.
“I think there is definitely enough depth there with the younger guys; it’s more an experience thing and then the team starting to gel.”
Mundy also said despite Olympic’s lowly eleventh position on the table that their performances thus far provide plenty of cause for optimism.
“Against Redlands we should have walked away with a point, I thought it was a much closer game then what the match report conveyed and it could have gone either way and I’m sure they’d say the same thing.
“In the last couple of weeks the team has started to move the ball around a lot better and some of our patterns of play are staring to click a bit better,” he concluded.
Olympic will look to end their four match losing run at home against an out-of-sorts Moreton Bay United this weekend – the defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Champions searching for their first win in three matches.
