With the raging success of the FortyWinks Most Valuable Player award being decided by coaches on a week by week voting system now sees the Reserves SPS award and the u18s Sherrin award follow the same path.
The awards previously has been decided by the ever reliant timekeepers who have an unenviable task of ensuring all our games are managed within the rules and regulations set out within the AFL Laws. In order to lighten the workload on timekeepers for season 2016 these awards have been handed back to each to the coaching panels of the respective teams.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting process is managed the same way as the AFL Coaches Player of the Year award. Both teams coaches are required to give votes (5,4,3,2,1) on who they believe are the best 5 players on the ground (not just from their own team) with the player who earns 10 votes been awarded Best on Ground honours from both coaches.
Once coaches are familiar with the process the weekly votes will be published through the weekender.
Last season the Forty Winks MVP award created a lot of discussion around the grounds since it was introduced.
Some supporters throughout last year kept an eye on the Fortywinks MVP as they believed it was be a window into where the Morrison Medallist winner was going to come from.
Last year saw a close race in the Forty Winks MVP with Kyabram’s Jason Morgan edging out Seymour’s Jason Cole with Morrison Medallist Ash Watson finishing equal 9th
