Stirling Lions put Cockburn City to the sword in their PS4 National Premier Leagues WA clash at Dalmatinac Park on Sunday, romping to a 7-2 victory over the hosts.

David Micevski and Teeboy Kamara both scored twice as Stirling broke a two-game losing streak in emphatic style.

It was the second time in four matches that Stirling had put seven past an opponent - having opened their season with a 7-1 drubbing of Subiaco - and Lions coach Rob Milevski was impressed with his side’s attacking display.

“We had a tough game against Bayswater [in Round Two], and I thought we were a bit flat against Perth last week, so we just upped the intensity in training and focused a bit more on the attacking third,” he said.

“I thought we caused them a lot of trouble out wide today, and Teeboy and Dave combined really well…I thought we were great going forward, and really good in the middle of the park.”

Stirling began aggressively, and were rewarded seven minutes into the match when Daniel Micevski pounced on a Cockburn clearance to fire a low shot past Luke Radonich from outside the area.

The visitors doubled their advantage in stunning fashion two minutes later, as Radonich’s punch from a Stirling corner landed at David Murphy’s feet, who then rocketed a long-range shot into the top of the net.

Cockburn were stunned into action, and Angel Andres went close to breaking through for the hosts.

Stirling keeper John Perkins made an impressive reflex save from a point-blank Reuben Tristao shot in the 29th minute, before his team took possession and swept the ball upfield.

Daniel Micevski played in Kamara, who put a low shot past Radonich to make it 3-0.

Cockburn pulled one back four minutes later with a screamer of their own, as Kenel Mouithys ran onto a diagonal ball, outsprinted his man and rifled a shot high into the corner of Perkins’ goal.

Their good work was undone in the 41st minute, however, as David Micevski showed strength to power to the edge of the area before finishing with a low shot to Radonich’s right.

Kamara added Stirling’s fifth six minutes into the second half, finishing some great interplay down the right flank between Daniel Micevski and Robert Petkov.

Another surging Kamara run down the left led to a Stirling penalty in the 65th, as Cockburn were reduced to 10 men following Euen Grant’s second yellow.

David Micevski converted the spot-kick to make it six, as Cockburn’s scoreboard team struggled to keep up.

Stirling captain Brodie Martin added his side’s seventh after a Cockburn defensive lapse eight minutes from time, before Andres grabbed a consolation goal for the hosts with a minute left.

Cockburn will travel to league leading Inglewood for Round Five, while Stirling will host ECU Joondalup at Macedonia Park

Milevski said Stirling was looking forward to the challenge ECU presented.

“They’ve made some good signings, so it won’t be an easy match,” he said.
