AFL Sydney is pleased to announce that the 2016 Round 1 Rising Star is Tim Coenen from St George.
Tim started his AFL career at the age of 12 with the Southern Highlands Hawks. Used predominately as a ruckman due to his size it didn’t take long before he was on the radar of the Sydney Swans Academy. A subsequent move to the very strong Sydney Harbour competition saw Tim further develop as a footballer and led to his selection in the U/15 “All Australian” Schoolboys Team in 2012. Tim then went on to gain selection with the NSW/ACT Rams as both an U/16 & U/18 from 2013 to 2015 playing at both TAC Cup level and on the National Championship stage whilst also representing the Sydney Swans Reserves in 5 NEAFL games. Tim came to St George in 2015 looking for an opportunity to test himself in the Premier Division and he fit straight into the young Dragons squad embracing the DNA culture the club is built on. Able to play at both ends of the ground and/or through the midfield Tim’s versatility, toughness and desire to learn as much as he can from the coaching staff and club veterans has made him a valuable asset in the clubs pursuit of that elusive premiership.
Congratulations Tim!
