PLAYSTATION®4 TRIUMPHS IN 2015 WITH RECORD BREAKING YEAR IN AUSTRALIA
Strongest Festive Season in Australian PlayStation History, Steady Growth and Record Breaking Software Sales Reported in 2015
PS4 the No. 1 selling home console for 2015
PS4 accounts for 59% of the current generation market value
Sydney, Australia, 2nd March 2016: As Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) looks towards 2016 with the promise of ground breaking innovation, great games and all round home entertainment services, the company releases 2015 [CY] results demonstrating record breaking momentum. In accordance with NPD Group Australia data, PlayStation®4 (PS4™) accounted 59% of total current generation console units[i]. Additionally, the PS4 overall platform accounted for 59% of the total current generation market value[ii], which includes Nintendo Wii U, PS4, Xbox One home consoles, games and peripherals.
The Xmas week[iii] and the month of December 2015 stood as landmark moments, with both being the highest performers on record in Australian PlayStation history. Festive season success was also replicated globally with the recently announced results of 35.9 million units sold through – 5.9 million[iv] of which sold during the 2015 festive season[v].

PS4 software success
PlayStation 4 software is, according to the latest NPD Group Australia results, outselling its closest competitor by 82%[vi] in value and 84%[vii] in units. PS4 contributed to almost half (49.1%) of the total console software value in 2015[viii].
Taking players on new adventures with every new software release, 2015’s current generation software line up was the strongest to date. Top 1st party performers were; BloodborneTM, The Order: 1886TMand UnchartedTM: The Nathan Drake Collection. These titles, along with the inclusion of Call of Duty®: Black Ops III, Fallout 4®, EA SPORTS™ FIFA 16 and Star WarsTM BattlefrontTM from 3rd party publishers made it a record breaking year for software.
2016 promises to be another groundbreaking year, with highly anticipated exclusives such as Naughty Dog’s UnchartedTM 4: A Thief’s End, Hello Games’ procedurally generated space exploration game,No Man’s Sky and Guerilla Games’ newest action RPG, Horizon Zero DawnTM.

Proving its digital footprint is on fast pace, last year PlayStation announced partnerships with all major streaming services including Presto, Stan, Netflix, Spotify, Foxtel Play as well as Quickflix – making PS4 not only the best place to play, but also the best place to be entertained.

PlayStation VR (PSVR), set to launch in 2016, is the latest development in groundbreaking innovation. It opens the door to revolutionary, immersive gameplay transporting players from their living rooms to amazing worlds and surprising unknown experiences. With more than 200 developers producing software for PSVR, its launch in 2016 is set to transform the gaming landscape.
