NEWS: Rep opportunities ahead for Geelong regions’ Girls and Boys Juniors
GEELONG Region Football Committee (GRFC) is excited to announce that for the first time in several years, the Geelong region will field junior representative teams at the Victorian Country Championships, which will this year be held on the Queen’s Birthday weekend (11-13 June) in Bendigo.
There will be a total of six (6) GRFC rep squads and they will be all administered and managed by GOFC on behalf of the Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC). The six teams include:
- BOYS’ U12s, U14s and U16s and
- GIRLS’ U12s, U14s and U16s squads.
Based on a 15 person squad, the cost per player will be $275, which will cover the team kit, affiliation cost, team entry, referee costs, coaching and training fees and associated administration costs. This does not cover additional costs such as accommodation, transportation, meals and spending money.
It is important that this competition is represented by the best of our juniors. To this end, we ask clubs to encourage all children, regardless of their financial situation, to try out in the selection process.
Further to this, we urge clubs to assist families who may be financially challenged to meet the costs. There are many ways to consider, such as payment plans, sponsorships and fundraisers through chocolate drives and the like. With a few months in hand, we hope this is achievable.
The application process for selecting the coaches was opened on March 1 with Trials for all teams to be staged on Monday 18th April and final squad lists to be confirmed on April 28.
With the 2016 season of the GRFC competitions kicking off on the weekend of 9-11 April, the pre-tournament training for the GRFC Representative Squads is expected to take place in mid-May.
It needs to be stressed that selection in the above squads is only open to GRFC registered players, any NPL player is ineligible for selection in the GRFC Rep squads.
Any local coach wanting to apply for any of the above positions, please email your application (cover letter and CV) to GOFC Coaching at coaching@gofc.com.au or contact Pete Bradley from GOFC for more information on 0434 945 170.
