New Adelaide SANFL captain Luke Carey is ready to usher through the next crop of development players queuing up to play at West Lakes.
Primed to replace inaugural SANFL Crows skipper Ian Callinan, Carey knows exactly how it feels to come into a foreign environment from a community club.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 25-year-old revealed his verbal presence had caught the ear of coach Heath Younie during a consistent 2015 campaign.
Originally from Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula, Carey moved to Adelaide to play in the SANFL with the Port Adelaide Magpies.
But after two serious knee injuries restricted him to just 10 IGA League games in four seasons, he found himself playing in the Hills Football League with Echunga.
Carey still considers Echunga to be his home club, training with the Demons once a week, while also appearing on the training track with the Crows for three nights.
Measuring in at 188cm and 82kg, Carey is able to play on the talls and smalls as a key defender, last year proving to be one of his team’s most consistent development players along with Matt Spencely.
