Last-gasp goals from Bayswater City and Floreat Athena earned the respective clubs their places in the QBE Night Series semi-finals at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday, March 5.

Bayswater will meet Armadale at 8.15pm and Stirling Lions will take on Floreat Athena at 6pm.

The semi-finalists were decided after a weekend of high drama at Percy Doyle Reserve, Inglewood Stadium and Dalmatinac Park.

Seven teams had been vying for three of the four places after Stirling Lions had already wrapped up their spot with a 100 percent record from their first four matches.

Armadale’s stunning 5-3 victory over the Lions earned them a semi-final tie against Bayswater, whose passage to the knockout stages was secured by David Heagney’s last-gasp penalty in a 1-0 win over Cockburn City.

Despite their 5-2 defeat to Perth Glory, Inglewood had been clinging to a semi-final spot until a late goal from Blair Govan elevated Floreat Athena’s standing.

Athena’s 3-1 win put them level with Inglewood United on points, goals for and goals against, and allowed Floreat to sneak into the semi-finals as a result of their 2-1 win over Inglewood in round one.

Phil Arnold and Chris Saldaris had also been on target for Floreat, while Kevin White’s goal for Subiaco had put Floreat on tenterhooks before Govan’s 79th minute goal.

Raveshlan Kuppusamy opened the scoring for Armadale, who were two-up when Alex Salmon scored the first of his two goals before Trevor Laure made it 3-0 and Jake Sardelic put the game beyond doubt.

Teeboy Kamara scored twice for Stirling and Jason Rubidge was also on target late in the game.

Sorrento, who missed out on the semi-finals on goal difference, had the better of a five-goal contest against local rivals ECU Joondalup through goals from Niccolo Sabatini, Jordan Dodd and Jason Mirco, who grabbed the 84th minute winner. Goals from Gordon Smith and Steven McGarry had twice drawn ECU level.

Perth’s Night Series hopes were snuffed out by a Zelfy Nazary double in Balcatta’s 2-0 victory.

Perth Glory blitzed Inglewood with a Nic Talimdzioski double and goals from Sam McKearnan, Hagi Gligor and Joe Knowles. An own goal and Ashley Rosindale’s late effort were all that Inglewood could muster.
