Moreton Bay United goalkeeper Matt Stein says Saturday’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues opener against his former club Brisbane City is “massive”.

Stein, who spent three years with City prior to his off-season move to the defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Champions, will put past allegiances to one side in the battle for an opening day win.

“It’s one of the most important games of the year - massive," Stein said.

“I’ve always believed winning’s a habit and we’ve been pretty good in pre-season. But drop three points in the first game and that’s immediately a gap to close. So getting three points is important to get the season going."

Stein currently sits second on the list of all-time goalkeeper clean-sheets in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland due to his exploits at City, however he said despite affection for is former club he is firmly focused on his role with Jets.

“It’s almost scripted that I’m going back there for the first game of the season," he said.

"I made a lot of friends there and met a lot of good people, but I wouldn’t mind going back and getting the points.

Stein added that despite a raft of changes to the team that finished top of the heap in Queensland last year, the Jets have gelled well and are looking to maintain their high standards.

“I think all the boys are going in one direction, we all want to get wins, we want to work together."

Technical Director Piddick believes one of the keys to Saturday’s game will be mental preparation.

“They’re where we want them to be physically, now it’s just how we turn up on game day and apply ourselves properly," Piddick said.

“I’m happy with where the boys are, going in to a game against one of the big clubs, and looking forward to it,” he concluded.
