Women's Pre-Season - Sunday Wrap
Words: Michael Flynn
Western Pride succumbed to a fightback from Northern Fury in their final match of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s pre-season.
Late Fury Surge Wounds Pride
Northern Fury Women struck twice in the final ten minutes to overrun Western Pride Women 2-1 at Briggs Road Complex on Sunday.
Both sides were playing their second pre-season game in less than 24 hours and struggled to find their spark through a lacklustre first half.
However, the contest came to life early in the second stanza when Emma Barnes opened accounts – combining with Melissa Von Bischoffshausen before guiding a shot into the top corner.
Fury levelled terms ten minutes from time when Monica Anderson’s strike hit the crossbar allowing Teagan Lynch to harry the rebound across the goal line.
The winner was poked home amidst a goal-mouth scramble – Patrice Figg forcing a parried save before poking home on the second attempt to secure the win.
Pride commence their PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s campaign next Sunday against Redlands United at Briggs Road Complex.
Western Pride FC Women 1 (Emma BARNES 49’)
Northern Fury FC Women 2 (Teagan LYNCH 80’, Patrice FIGG 85’)
