The South Australian Community Football League has joined forces with the West End Community Fund to help football clubs across the state purchase a defibrillator.
In 2016, SA football clubs will be eligible to apply for a $1000 subsidy toward the purchase of a defibrillator through the implementation of the West End Defib Subsidy Scheme.
The aim of the West End Defib Subsidy Scheme is to increase the amount of defibrillators at football clubs across SA, in turn reducing the number of fatalities arising from sudden cardiac arrest.
‘’The West End Community Fund and SA Community Football have a great relationship and their commitment to assisting community clubs has been outstanding for a long period of time,’’ SACFL Manager Matt Duldig said.
‘’With the West End Community Fund providing subsidies, we hope to have a defibrillator in every club across SA.’’
More than 30,000 Australians suffer from sudden cardiac arrest on an annual basis, with a survival rate of just five per cent.
Immediate access to a defibrillator can lead to a 70 per cent survival rate if applied in a prompt manner.
‘’The West End Community Fund welcomes the opportunity to subsidise defibrillator units for football clubs across South Australia, as it sees this a vital piece of emergency equipment to have on hand each weekend when players take to the field,’’ West End Community Fund Chairman Jason Baily said.
The West End Defib Subsidy Scheme also aims to deliver cost effective training to community club volunteers in using the defibrillators while also promoting the services of the Red Cross in supporting safe sporting club environments.
