Strikers Incur First Pre-Season Defeat
Words: Michael Flynn
Brisbane Strikers missed from the penalty spot as they succumbed 1-0 to Logan Lightning in a pre-season friendly on Saturday night.
Pepi Kostosvki delivered the decisive blow for Lightning from a corner early in the first half – making amends for a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Strikers last week in the BLK Silver Boot.
Strikers fashioned several chances throughout the contest but proved unable to get the better of a stubborn Lightning defence.
Off-season Strikers recruit Alistair Davis had a chance to level midway through the second half but saw his attempt saved before Jesse Wiemers skewed his follow-up attempt wide of the target.
The result marks the first defeat of the pre-season campaign for Strikers.
They return to pre-season action on Tuesday night in the BLK Silver Boot against Mitchelton FC.
