GWS GIANTS and Sydney Swans superstars will take the game to regional and rural communities around NSW/ACT as part of the 2016 Australia Post AFL Community Camp.
The Sydney Swans will hold their community camp on Monday February 8 and Tuesday February 9, while the GWS GIANTS’ camp will take place in Western Sydney on Thursday February 18 and in Canberra and other parts of NSW on Friday February 26, the day after their first NAB Challenge match at StarTrack Oval Canberra.
Both clubs will again spread their lists over NSW/ACT, with the bulk of the Swans’ squad visiting schools and clubs across Sydney and surrounds, and the majority of the GIANTS’ list heading to Western Sydney and then Canberra.
Away from the stronghold of the Harbour City small groups of players from the Sydney Swans will head to regional areas such as Wollongong, Bowral, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Terrigal, Tamworth, Armidale and Wagga Wagga.
Swans co-captain Kieren Jack said the playing group is looking forward to the Community Camp.
“The Community Camp is such an important initiative and something all of the players look forward to each year,” jack said.
“We all can’t wait to get out and about and see Swans fans all over the state in February.
“The camp will once again be a great way to celebrate the return of footy for 2016.”
Meanwhile, the GIANTS’ will continue to grow their fan base in Southern NSW and will send small groups of players to Wagga Wagga, Griffith and Broken Hill.
GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said the GIANTS were looking forward to visiting these areas ahead of the 2016 season.
“It’s terrific to include Western Sydney in our Community Camp as well as continuing to take in Canberra and the regional areas of NSW,” Matthews Said.
“Our players really enjoy these community camps and it’s a great way to get to know the fan in our region we continue to grow the game across NSW and the ACT.”
More details of specific Community Camp locations and timings will be released in the coming weeks.
