Strikers Edge Lions In Pre-Season

Second half goals to new recruits Shaun Carlos and Jake McLean saw Brisbane Strikers overcome Lions FC 2-0 in their pre-season friendly on Friday night.
Following a scoreless first-half, last season’s PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland runners-up struck twice in eleven minutes at C.J. Greenfield Reserve for their second win of the pre-season
A somewhat stoic first-half arm wrestle saw few chances for either side, with Strikers goalkeeper Michael Weier denying Michael Butters early with the best chance of the half.
Strikers found their attack stifled by their Brisbane Premier League opponents before the break - Shelford Dais scooping their best chance of the half high after his run was picked out by Greig Henslee.
After the restart Strikers gained extra impetus by the addition of Rhys Meredith and Chris Maher from the bench and opened accounts shortly after the hour when McLean guided a pin-point shot into the top corner.
Playing against his former club, Carlos then benefitted from a smart lay-off from Meredith before his shot took a slight deflection to double his side's advantage.
Lions fashioned late chances but were ultimately unable to find reward as Strikers saw out the result with a resolute defensive effort.
Strikers continue their pre-season in the BLK Silver Boot tournament on Tuesday against their cross-town PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland rivals Olympic FC.
