Returning Brisbane Strikers attacking midfielder Trent Clulow is looking to build on a stellar 2015 campaign and believes his club’s attacking philosophy can only assist his quest for more goals.

Clulow, 29, is preparing for his second season in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland under coach Kevin A’herne-Evans, who lured him to Perry Park following a successful stint with Brisbane Premier League club Wolves FC.

He proved one of the most impactful recruits of the 2015 season – starting every league game for Strikers and scoring nine goals as Strikers reached their first PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Final – but is also confident he can improve on those returns in 2016.

“I basically base my performances on how I perform in the final third,” Clulow explained.

“Certainly this coming year there is a big focus on scoring goals and expressing ourselves and Kevin has put together a team that can work to that.”

“I will be looking at my performances based on how many assets I can create for our front players and how many goals I can score myself.”

Clulow is joined at Strikers this season by Brisbane Premier League recruits Shaun Carlos and Alistair Davis, and said he expects them to also excel in the national second tier.

“The guys that make the transition to the NPL, especially to top four clubs, have been identified because they can make that transition fairly seamlessly.”

“Shaun came from the best team in the BPL last year and did very well in the FFA Cup and I think he will fit into our structure and, week-in-week-out, will only get better with exposure to more competitive games.”

“I know Alistair from Wolves previously. He was the leading goalscorer in the BPL last year in a team that didn’t perform so well on the pitch and that’s a huge credit to him.”

Strikers coach Kevin A’herne-Evans said he has high expectations for Clulow this season.

“A goal scoring, attacking midfielder is gold dust in anyone’s team and we have got one of the best in Brisbane at being able to do that,” A’herne-Evans explained.

“I’m very confident that he will be into double figures for goals scored this year and he also has that that personal pride, where he wants to go and win every individual award as well,” he concluded.
