GCC Kick-Off Pre-Season
Words: Michael Flynn
Gold Coast City will play their first match under their new branding when they face Logan Lightning in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
The match marks the start of pre-season fixtures for Grae Piddick’s side and will see the club field a team comprised primarily of senior and youth triallists against their Brisbane Premier League opposition.
Piddick said it was another exciting step in the development of the Gold Coast City brand ahead of the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season.
“I think there will be a bit of curiosity but because it’s at Logan you may not get too many Coast people coming except for maybe friends and family,” the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2014 Grand Final winning coach explained.
“Really for me it’s an exercise to see some new players and the Gold Coast City name has certainly seen us attract some new players with that culture we want to bring.”
“It’s a good chance for players who have come in from some local Gold Coast clubs to show they are up to the NPL level,” he concluded.
Gold Coast City Women will also commence their pre-season against Lightning Women earlier in the day.
The side is yet to confirm if any of the team that reached the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women's Grand Final as Palm Beach SC Women will return in 2016 under new coach Dave Thompson.
