HINES SELECTED IN AUSTRALIAN PACIFIC SCHOOLS GAMES BASKETBALL SQUAD

Rachael Hines, one of Mount Gambier’s and SA Country’s most outstanding junior basketballers, has enjoyed a very successful week as a member of the South Australian team which competed in the Pacific Schools games in Adelaide last week.

More than 3500 school children aged between 10 years and 18, competed in a wide range of individual and team sports in and around metropolitan Adelaide.

Teams in the Under 18 Women’s Basketball Division with SA were WA, NSW, Queensland, ACT, India and China.

Several players from the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence and other Australian Camp players competed in this age Division.

The SA team, coached by SA Country State Coach Jo Matthews, lost the semi-final against NSW by six points and then accounted for ACT, 57-54, in thrilling play off for the Bronze Medal.

NSW defeated Victoria by one point on a three pointer in the dying seconds of the Gold medal game.

Hines had her consistently outstanding performances rewarded by being named Most Valuable Player for the SA team and gaining a place in the All Australian Pacific Games Basketball Squad.
