MEDIA RELEASE: FFV freezes player registration fees for 2016 season
FOOTBALL clubs across Victoria will pay less to play in 2016 after Football Federation Victoria (FFV) last week announced its 2016 fee schedule. Football will now be cheaper for junior community clubs in Victoria with FFV lowering the standard club entry fee for junior teams in the Sportsmart Junior State Leagues.
Football's rapid rise in popularity reached new heights last week with Roy Morgan Research finding football is now No.1 for Australian children age 6-13.
In 2016, Sportsmart Boys State Leagues, Sportsmart Girls State Leagues and AIA Vitality MiniRoos for boys and girls have had their team entry fee reduced to what was previously the 2015 early bird rate.
Men's Metropolitan clubs and Women's clubs in Zagame's State Leagues 2 to 4 will also benefit from the team entry fee reduction.
With recent Roy Morgan Research finding more Australian girls age 6-13 play football than netball, FFV has maintained free girls' team entry for AIA Vitality MiniRoos (age 7-11) in 2016.
For every AIA Vitality MiniRoos Girls team entered by a club in 2016, FFV will waive the team entry fee for the same number of AIA Vitality MiniRoos Boys teams.
FFV CEO Peter Gome said a 13 per-cent rise in players in 2015 was proof of the quality experience football players were having in the game.
"FFV recognises the vital role football clubs play as sporting and social beacons in their communities," Gome said.
"For that reason we saw fit to reduce the team entry fee for junior community clubs.
"We are also proud that there is no team entry fee for girls players age seven to 11 in 2016.
"With more girls now playing football than netball it is important to give our Victorian clubs every opportunity to capitalise on our game's popularity."
Player registration fees will remain the same as 2015 and have stayed the same for three years, not haing increased since 2013.
"Football's rapid increase in popularity is proof that Victorians not only enjoy playing the game, but see the experience as good value for money," Mr Gome said.
