STRONG REPRESENTATION IN SA COUNTRY JUNIOR BASKETBALL TEAMS

Mount Gambier Junior Basketballers, Coaches and Officials feature strongly in the 2016 SA Country Junior representative teams, which will compete in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in Albury NSW from January 10th to 16th 2016.

These Teams will train in Adelaide over the weekends of December 12th, 13th and 19th and 20th in preparation for the Country Cup in January.

Eleven Junior Lakers’ players have been selected in the six Under 14 SA Country Development teams. They are Oscar Adams, Jaidyn Lawrence, Darcy Lillecrapp, Craig Nathan, Lewis Stratford, Oliver Thomson, Emily Dawe, Jordy Freeman, Mikaela Horrigan, Claire Hunter and Sarah Nulty.

Basketball Mount Gambier Junior Development Officer, Trevor Semmens, is Coach of the Under 14 Redbacks Girls’ team while Jenny Herbert of Millicent is Coach of the Under 14 Boys’ Magpies team.

The best 40, 20 Boys and 20 Girls have been selected across the Under 15 and 16 age groups to represent SA Country in the Under 16 Country Cup. Laker Mitchell Hunter continues his state representation as a member of the SA Country Under 16 Sharks team to be coached by Michael Quinn of Whyalla.

Five Lakers’ Under 16 Girls have been selected in Cup teams. Peter Seebohm, Millicent Basketball Manager, will coach Jordy Adams, Waiata Jennings, Bella Stratford and Molly Watson, while Morgan Tolley of Eastern Hills, will coach the Sharks with Madisyn Freeman a member. Promising junior Laker, Olivia Patzel has been named reserve for the Under 16 age group.      

One Boys’ and one Girls’ Under 15 teams have been selected to represent SA Country at the 2016 Southern Cross Challenge to be played at Knox Basketball association from Thursday January 14th to 17th. Talented Laker, Emily Close, is reserve for this team.

Eight Junior Lakers have been selected in the Country Cup Under 18 teams. Zach deWit, Josh Levison and Kurt Rodis are members of the Magpies team to be coached by Mount Gambier’s Bryan Green. Lachlan Hunter and Emmerson White are members of the Sharks team with Nick Wooden of Eastern Hills as Coach.

Glenn Mathieson of Naracoorte, victorious Under 18 Women’s Coach in the 2015 Australian Country Cup continues in 2016 with the Sharks. Lakers Brenna McKay and Tenille Gray are members of the Sharks team.

Mount Gambier’s Dan Stratford is coach of the Under 18 Girls’ Magpies and has Lauren Ross in the team.

Melissa Rathjen is Group Manager for the Under 16 Girls and Roger Hammond is the overall State Manager.

Basketball Mount Gambier Junior Development officer, Trevor Semmens, has drawn up a demanding program for the representatives over the Christmas break to have the players well prepared for the Country Cup competitions.

Dean Kinsman former National Junior Women’s Coach and Australian Institute of Sport Women’s Head Coach, will be in charge of two full days of training, 9am to 4pm, on December 21st and 22nd. These specialised coaching sessions over the two days are being sponsored by the Bendigo Community Bank.
