Former North Shore player Ryan Davis has been given another crack at the AFL after being picked up by the Gold Coast in last week’s rookie draft.
Davis was the last of six WA players selected, with Jesse Glass-McCasker, also from Swans, the first taken after Carlton snapped him up with the No.1 pick.
Davis, 26, was cut by West Coast at the end of 2009 after two years and 14 games with the club, but took his game to new heights at after joining Swan Districts in the WAFL.
In his 2015 season he averaged 21 disposals, six tackles and kicked 24 goals playing across half-forward and through the midfield.
Davis also took out the Simpson Medal in WA’s win over South Australia at Lathlain Park in May, finishing with 25 possessions, five goals and 10 inside-50s.
Davis won the Podbury Medal as best on ground in the AFL Sydney 2007 Grand Final while playing for the Bombers.
Another former North Shore player also had good news last week as Sam Naismith was upgraded to the Sydney Swans Senior list.
