WYLIE Buzza has bought his lottery ticket so to speak, now he is just hoping his numbers come up.
The Gatton 19-year-old has nominated for tonight's AFL National Draft in Adelaide and was hopeful of embarking on an AFL career after first playing the sport in 2010.
Buzza has been anxiously waiting for tonight to arrive.
The former Lockyer Valley Demon and Darling Downs Crow has been courted by several AFL clubs in the lead-up to the draft after impressing at the under 18 national championships in June as an overaged player.
That has been an experience the key position player had never expected.
"I was always confident that I would always make the AFL but I never thought I would be in a position where AFL clubs are calling you and coming to your house," he said.
That has added to the anticipation of the draft.
"I'm nervous," he said on the eve of what could be a life-changing night.
"I'm trying to be confident but you never know how it is going to turn out.
"It is a bit of a lottery. You just don't know how things will turn out.
"I think there is a bit of luck involved to get picked up.
"Hopefully I get picked up by an AFL club. I have spoken to about half of the AFL clubs. They don't give much away."
Buzza has been splitting his time living in Gatton and Brisbane as he played for Mt Gravatt and Redlands but a chance in the AFL could move him interstate.
Coming from a rugby league background, he hadn't barracked for one particular club since childhood but supported both Queensland teams - Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
A total of 89 players are expected to be taken in tonight's AFL National Draft, with Carlton holding pick No.1 and Brisbane the No. 2 selection.
TONIGHT will be anything but a quiet night at home for Wylie Buzza.
He is hoping to have his name read out at tonight's AFL National Draft, which will be televised.
"I'm going to be at home in Gatton just glued to the TV," the Gatton teen said of his plans tonight.
"Hopefully I get a phone call off somebody to maybe get a hint they might be taking me."
