Review U22 Pre-final

In the women’s pre-final game, Ulverstone versus Burnie it was Ulverstone that settled early, playing a better team game. Charlotte O’Neill had a good first quarter, while Taylor Mole was keeping Burnie in the game.

Ulverstone continued their tough defensive game in the second quarter, making Burnie shoot under pressure. Ulverstone held a five point lead at half time.

In the third quarter Burnie made a run at Ulverstone and were able to gain the lead part way through the quarter. Once again Ulverstone stepped up their defence and managed to get back a nine point lead at three-quarter time.

In and exciting last term, both teams were in team foul trouble early, as well as several players on both teams getting into foul trouble.

Burnie could not peg back the lead, getting as close to three points in the last minute. However, Ulverstone made their foul shots to take out a five point victory.

Ulverstone play Penguin in the Grand Final on Tuesday at Penguin.

In the men’s game, Latrobe against Penguin, it was Penguin that made a fast start. Latrobe were without their five-man Blake Charles, however, other Latrobe players were able to step up.

Both teams were playing high tempo basketball, as well as making shots from beyond the arc. At quarter time Penguin held a three point lead.

The second quarter saw the lead change several times with both teams making the best of their second chance opportunities. Penguin held a two point lead at half time.

Latrobe made their run in the third quarter, outscoring Penguin 25 – 15. Latrobe held an eight point lead going into the last quarter.

Penguin found their range in the last quarter from the three point line. Jaylen Beveridge had a very good last quarter for Penguin, scoring 9 points for the quarter.

Penguin won a very exciting game by just three points.
