Redlands United FC have re-signed midfield playmaker Igor Sao Jose for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season and confirmed him as captain.
The 28-year old’s re-signing is the Red Devils’ first for the new season and more returns are expected to be announced in coming weeks.
The Brazilian born Sao Jose proved an integral part of Redlands midfield last season - making 23 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland appearances and the club's second highest return of eight goals.
His performances have earned him the captain’s armband for the new campaign, with last year’s captain James Donnelly departing the club to return to England.
The attack minded Sao Jose said returning to the bayside was a no brainer as he looks to help the club build towards future success.
“At the end of the day the club has great coaching staff that I want to be involved with,” Sao Jose explained.
“The style of football that we play, the great facilities and everyone involved - I guess that’s the whole package that made me decide to stay.”
Sao Jose added that he was excited about the season ahead following the Red Devil’s best ever third place finish last campaign.
“I definitely believe with the way the squad is shaping up and with the guys who are returning that we will have a winning squad and be fighting for the title for sure."
“I guess if we don’t believe that we can make the finals or progress further there isn’t much point to training every week and giving everything we have,” he concluded.
