TRFM Gippsland League will have the chance to break a disappointing cycle when it hosts Bendigo Football Netball League in next year's re-vamped WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.
The inclusion of metropolitan teams in Eastern, Northern, Essendon District and Western Region football leagues expanded the competition to 38 teams and bumped Bendigo Football Netball League and TRFM Gippsland League outside the top 10 on the updated rankings.
It will be the fourth time in seven years the two leagues have clashed, but unlike each of the previous three meetings, the 2016 matchup will take place in Gippsland.
The change in venue gives the TRFM Gippsland League a great opportunity to break the cycle and make a meaningful move up the rankings.
Last year's victorious home game against Yarra Valley Mountain District Football Netball League was played at Drouin Recreation Reserve, but a venue for the Bendigo showdown is yet to be determined.
The winner of the clash will move up to 10th on the rankings and the league is hopeful coach Steve Hazelman receives the full support of all member clubs and has access to the best players the league has to offer.
The 2016 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships will take place on May 21-22.
