Thanks to everyone who nominated for the "Good Sports" award.  Good Sports, a program of the Australian Drug Foundation, know that sporting clubs are the beating hearts of our communities.Binge drinking drives families away from sports clubs, so Good Sports is all about supporting clubs to put sport - only -  in the spotlight. Good Sports provides resources and training to help clubs tackle alcohol-related issues as well as mental health, smoking and obesity. - See more at: http://goodsports.com.au/we-are-good-sports/#sthash.czBmyfPh.dpuf

Picking a winner is always hard as there are so many people that go abiove and beyond for Willetton Basketball.  One strong contender, who deserves an honourable mention is  Matt Ticehurst.  Matt is a coach at both domestic and WABL levels, he is a referee and a referee supervisor, as well as being a program coach for the under 8s program.  His nominee said: "Matt is always welcoming and listening whenever I see him working with the players, families, coaches and anyone else ... His attitude and commitment to developing these young players creates an instructional, fun and welcoming environment."

The winner of the Good Sports shield this year was Jeff Anderson, who has been with the club now for over twenty years. Jeff is an employee of the association but certainly goes above and beyond.

His nominator had this to say: "Jeff stands out to me because of his personality, his genuine love of the game and especially his teaching of skills.  A lot he does behind the scenes goes unnoticed as they are carried out quietly & methodically ...I do believe the extra time he puts in remains unnoticed.

The extra activities he has brought to the stadium ie  Skills Programme, Academy, Schools end of year programs, 3 on 3 Comps, Kung Fu Programme, Men’s Health Carnival, Mixed Comps, Life Ball,  Badminton and of course his School Holiday Camps are all a testimony to his loyalty to Willetton Basketball.  All these take up many hours outside of his regular working hours including marketing and visiting schools.

Jeff is the Face of Willetton ... the heart of our association WABL, SBL and our Senior competitions. He spends many hours just to make people happy from the highest level of sportsmanship to the basic roots of our competition."
